Working out the Risk
TFS Limited is at the forefront of quality work-based personal safety training.
Since starting in 1997, the Home Counties based company has developed and run training programmes for staff that are at risk from confrontation or attack. Their programmes for personal protective strategies have been sought by a number of major clients throughout the UK including Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Eurostar, WH Smith and Whitbread.
The rapid growth of their work corresponds with greater awareness by retailers, the licensed trade and civic institutions of the increases in verbal abuse; physical attacks on personnel and the vulnerability of cash-handling staff. The latter has seen TFS become the preferred supplier to the Cash In Transit industry with clients including Securicor, Brinks (UK) Limited & Securitas.
TFS' in-company programmes offer mental skills to reduce the risk and severity of any incident. The training is wholly experiential and imprints simple but effective tools which are practically applied in highly stressful situations. By adopting a 'non-hands on' approach to conflict resolution delegates are able to confidently handle situations that have historically posed a significant threat to their own personal safety.
Rob McHarg of TFS says, 'The best managers want to prepare staff for the inevitable confrontation, be it face to face or on the telephone. Sadly, these occurrences are highly likely these days and can prove to be extremely harrowing.'
The first step in their training is to provide automatic strategies that prevent the patterns of fear and reactions, which are specific to individual staff.
The spin off of these courses is the confidence that comes from being able to deal with difficult situations successfully and improved relations with customers at every level of interaction.
